Faster - Smarter - Stronger -
Nikon D200 Rumors finally confirmed on Nikon website.
The
rumors are true, Nikon has come out with a new high-end prosumer (or
low-end professional) Digital SLR. There isn't much information yet
because the website pages are not complete but if you go to the Nikon
Digital Website you will see the proof (hope you have saved your
pennies).
http://www.nikondigital.com/main.html?page=d200
The Nikon Digital Website has a flash introduction to their new Digital
SLR camera. The NIkon D200 features a 10.2 Megapixel (DX format) CCD
Sensor, Nikon Image Processing Engine, shoots at up to 5 frames per
second shooting, has Nikon's exclusive 1,005-pixel 3D Matrix Metering
II, captures up to 1800 images per battery (EN-EL3e battery) charge, 11
Area Multi-CAM Auto Focus system, 2.5 inch LCD with Ultra-Wide viewing
angle, durable magnesium alloy body, and the shutter unit has been
tested for over 100,000 cycles. A new 18-200mm f3.6-5.6 lens has also
been rumored to be released as a kit lens for the Nikon D-200.
The Nikon D200 will sell for $1,699.95 (after rebate)
Update 9:50 PM EST -
Nikon USA has left the D200 page up, but has
replaced the D200 information with generic Nikon Digital camera
equipment. Apparently they are not planning to announce this camera
until the 1st of November and a sloppy webmaster left open the gate.
Strangely the gate was left open on Nikon websites in several European
countries a few days ago and today in the US. Some say it was
deliberate, that too many items have been 'accidentally' leaked by
different camera manufacturers this year, in an attempt to stir
interest among devoted users and to keep them from switching before the
official release date. Sounds like the camera manufacturers are
learning from the computer industry.
Update Oct. 28,
10:AM - A big thanks to my good friend David Cardinal for
pointing out on his nikondigital.org
website that there is now a dedicated Nikon D200 leak website - http://nikond200.com
The webmaster and many of the forum users at dpreview.com are very upset over Nikon
not waiting for dpreview to announce the D200 to the world. Gee wiz
guys this is just a camera announcement. Really the Nikon devotees are
starting to behave just like our crazed (and beloved) Macintosh
disciples. I wouldn't be surprised if a nikonrumors.com pops up pretty
soon.
I hope that Nikon does not get upset with me over this article. I have
been a Nikon user since I was 16 years old (my first camera was a
Nikorrex F, which was soon joined by a Nikon F, and that Nikon camera
was followed by countless other Nikon cameras). So I don't want to do
anything to ruin my relationship with Nikon (just reporting the news).
And just so I don't get accused of spreading rumors myself, the
information I gave above on the Nikon D200 came directly from the Nikon
USA website (nikondigital.com) when they were displaying the Nikon D200
page (on the 27th of October). I have more information available but it
would be second hand, so I have not repeated it here.
