Leica honors Woody Allen with special M8.2 camera. – Woody Allen accepts special Leica M8.2 camera from Leica CEO Dr. Andreas Kaufmann. November 3, 2008 – The Rose Club at The Plaza. Upon accepting the special Leica M8.2, Woody Allen discussed the camera’s role in his recent film “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”.


Unfortunately missing from the ceremony was the one reason that would get me to switch to using a Leica, and that is the movie’s (Leica) photographer, Scarlett Johansson (Cristina in the movie). The plot of the movie does not really matter but just in case you have not seen it, Cristina is a confused (and sexy) young American girl who is discovering photography on her journey through Spain.

While having affair with the (somewhat disturbed) artist husband of a very psychotic Penelop Cruz (ai caramba), she is given a Leica M6 by the artist and simultaneously seduced and given photography lessons by Miss Cruz.


Now I would gladly walk through several miles of broken lens elements, to be put in the middle of this photographic triangle, but Woody unfortunately decided that the incredibly intense Javier Bardem would fit the role of the “suffering” artist better.
