With Apple’s current offerings of a 24 inch LED Cinema display, and 30 inch Cinema HD Display delivering an incredible 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution, standard definition video footage is rapidly becoming outdated. It is also rumoured that Apple will introduce a new, market leading 32” LED display in 2010, designed specifically for the creative aficionados amongst us. The time for HD is now.

The Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000 was the worlds first digital video camera targeted at consumers to offer progressing full HD video, or 1080p to you and me. This provides video with a resolution of up to 1920 x 1080px, and all of this is encoded in MPEG 4 which is the native video format of iMovie, and fully compatible with Final Cut. Needless to say on an LED cinema display the results are absolutely spectacular.

The HD2000′s light and ergonomically designed body houses an 8.1MP sensor and 10x optical zoom, and in partnership with image stabilisation it puts the device in the league of respectable digital cameras too, shooting up to maximum resolution of 3264 x 2448px. Its only downfall becomes apparent in low light conditions, where the lack of a flash rendering it unable to function for the most part. For outdoor shots or well lit venues though, this still sits within the best HD offerings and represents a good match to imaging software such as the popular Aperture 2.
