– Beta Basic Set –
The Basic Develop setting in Adobe Lightroom 4 Beta have been updated from the previous version. The Basic settings have both been simplified and brought to a higher level. To demonstrate how easy they are to use I have applied the basic settings for Highlights, Shadows, Clarity, and Vibrance to a back-lit photo of a statue of a fisherman in the Eastport, Maine harbor.
By using the full amount of the Shadows and Highlights compensation, I was able to bring the photo back to something that looked closer to what I had originally seen. This was actually kind of a shock because in previous version of Lightroom, using the full amount of compensation would have meant so much noise that the image would be unusable.
Clarity and Vibrance compensation were both fairly conservative to just give the photo a bit more punch. Aside from these settings I also boosted the Clarity (sharpness) and boosted the Luminance (HSL sliders) of the sky a bit to add more drama.
The final image.
